2014 Thunderbird Storm ABS

Rear ABS working fine
Front ABS not working
ABS light is on until after 6mph (normal) then it turns off.

What would cause only the rear ABS to work, but not the front - while throwing no faults or DTC codes?

What tests have you done that shows it's not working?

Welcome to the forum BTW.

Thank you.

The test would be a hard-braking test down the local road. I can feel the rear pump, but the front will skid if I allow it.

I initially thought there may be an ABS DTC that needs to be cleared, but the service manual says in that case the ABS light should remain on.

I have always been unable to connect to the ABS ECM with TuneECU Android. It always times out and says it cannot connect.

If you haven't already done so, check fuses 8 and 10. Then check the pulser ring, gap, and sensor ( not sure if there is a test for this) and sensor connection and wiring loom for breaks. If all these are good then you may have to visit a Triumph dealer that has the necessary software to check. The front and rear ABS systems are separate in the module and ECM. Strange things can happen when tyres are fitted, I have experienced this.

Thank you, I'll go ahead and inspect / re-inspect these items. I also ordered some magnetic field paper to ensure the pulsar ring is still magnetized. Also ordered Dealertools to connect to the ABS module.

I'll report back with any progress.

Any outcome yet?

After replacing the battery (general maintenance, 5 years old) and connecting to the ABS module with DealerTool I was able to clear the 4 ABS stored DTCs and it now works normally.

I was never able to connect to the ABS module with TuneECU, for what it's worth. I read somewhere that they use completely different protocols, but that is anecdotal.

The magnetic field paper did not turn up a magnetic field on the pulsar ring, but only the ABS sensor itself. Perhaps the pulsar ring has too weak of a magnetic field, so this diagnostic test was not effective at all, or maybe completely incorrect. ( Perhaps the sensor magnet pull is measured as the gaps in the pulsar ring go by, and a magnetic field in the ring itself is not required).

The above assumption is correct. The ring is just plain steel.
